- Plitvice National Park - 230 Km
Thundering waterfalls plunge into emerald green lakes, surrounded by lush forests and striking karst rocks: welcome to Plitvice National Park!
Plitvice National Park is simply stunning, with its 16 lakes forming waterfalls and rapids surrounded by forests rich in vegetation and wildlife. The waterfalls are what remain most impressed in the memories of visitors. So for many this place is known as “the Plitvice waterfalls”.
You can explore it on foot along an 18 km long system of wooden walkways that follow the profile of lakes and streams allowing you to walk right above, below and through the mass of water. Sometimes wild and noisy, sometimes sly. Plitvice Lakes are an attraction suitable for both families with children and seniors, who will choose the simplest and most scenic paths, and for sportsmen and active holiday enthusiasts, for which more challenging trekking routes and bike routes are available.
The Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and the largest national park in the Republic of Croatia. The exceptional natural beauty of this area has always attracted nature lovers. As a result of that, it was declared the first national park of the Republic of Croatia as early as 8 April 1949. The process of tufa formation, through which tufa barriers and subsequently lakes are formed, is the outstanding universal value for which Plitvice Lakes received international recognition on 26 October 1979, when it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
