- Krka National Park - 50 Km or Boat trip
A day in Krka National Park is an unforgettable journey into nature, among impressive waterfalls, steeps, caves and lakes in which to swim.
Like the famous Plitvice waterfalls, Krka waterfalls are also a karst phenomenon, but here the flow of the river’s waters is much higher. The long Krka river winds its way through the Croatian hinterland to reach the sea after a bumpy path, during which it flows along a karst canyon 200 meters deep.
A visit to the beautiful Krka National Park is one of those experiences you can’t wait to tell your friends about. However, it will be difficult to find the words to describe the beauty of this landscape made of waterfalls, gorges, rocks, cliffs and caves where green is the dominant color. Both as tree branches and as the water of a clean river full of fish. You will spend an unforgettable day between walks in the open air and romantic boat trips. Visits to ancient villages and monasteries. Don’t forget your camera at home!
The most important waterfalls
The source of the Krka River is located a few kilometers outside the park of the same name, under a waterfall of its tributary (the Krčić River); when the Krčić River is dry in the summer, the source is visible.
It is known for its waterfalls, formed by travertine beds, among which the two most important are:
Roški slap
- Roški slap (15.5 m) is located just upstream from Lake Visovac. It is formed by an innumerable series of small waterfalls, interspersed with tuff islands, for a width of 450 m and a length of 650 m. The waterfalls are visible from a state road. The Roški slap mill complex is among the ethnographic monuments of particular interest and value in Dalmatia and Croatia. The mills are still in operation and operate a series of looms for weaving and mills for grinding grain. On the right side of the waterfalls there is another hydroelectric power plant;
Škradinski buk
- The great waterfall of Scardona, the Skradinski buk (a complex of waterfalls about 45 m high), is one of the most famous natural beauties in Croatia: the waters of the Krka and Cigola (Čikola) join together and reach the sea. Also at the Scardona waterfalls there is an ethnographic collection with old water mills where cereals are ground with stone millstones moved by water or baskets and mortars, ancient mechanisms for washing carpets, blankets, clothes and fabrics.
